Nursery app or WhatsApp group: the comparison
WhatsApp is free and everyone already has it. That’s why so many nurseries use it. But a parents’ group was never designed for a nursery, and its limits show quickly.

What WhatsApp does well
- Free, already on every phone
- Quick for an urgent announcement
- No training needed
Where a WhatsApp group causes problems
- Photos: in a group, every parent sees and can save photos of every child
- Privacy: educators’ personal numbers are known to every family
- Lost messages: important information disappears under the thank-yous and reactions
- Nothing is tracked: not attendance, not meals, not monthly fees
- Educators get messages in the evening and at weekends
Point by point

|---|---|---|
| Photos | Seen by the whole group | Each parent sees only their child |

| Arrival and departure | Not tracked | Checked in, with a notification and authorized people |
| Personal numbers | Visible | Not shared |
| Monthly fees | Not handled | Invoices in dirhams and tracking of late payments |
| History | Mixed into the conversation | Filed by child and by day |
| Cost | Free | Subscription paid by the nursery, free for parents |
How to leave the WhatsApp group smoothly
Use the group one last time to announce the app: a short message in French and Arabic, with the download link and the date from which information will go through Hi Kiddo. Keep the group read-only for two weeks, until every family is connected.
Frequently asked questions
Can we keep using WhatsApp as well?
Yes, for the occasional emergency. But the children’s day, photos and invoices work better in one tool.
Will parents really install another app?
When it brings them their child’s photos and day, yes. The most effective approach is to invite them on day one, with a class photo already sent.
