Hi Kiddo

Managing parents

Create parent accounts, link them to their children, and help them sign in to the Hi Kiddo app.

Where to find it

In the left menu, under People, click Parents. Only directors can open it.

The list shows every parent account in your center, in alphabetical order, with:

  • Parent: name and email,
  • Children: the children they are linked to (click a child to open their profile), or No children linked,
  • Status: Active or Inactive,
  • Devices: how many phones are signed in to the Hi Kiddo app, or No devices if they haven't signed in yet.

To find someone, type in Search by name or email... and click Filter. Click Clear to reset.

How to add a parent

How to add a parent

  1. Click Add Parent.
  2. Optionally, add a Photo with Choose Photo (JPG, PNG or WebP, 2 MB max).
  3. Choose a Title (Mr or Mrs), then fill in First Name and Last Name.
  4. Type their Email. They sign in to the app with it, and it must not already be used by another account.
  5. Optionally, add a Phone.
  6. Choose the Language of emails and notifications: Français, العربية, English or Español. They can change it themselves in the app.
  7. Under Their children, click Choose children… to open the picker. Search by name, filter by classroom if you have several, and tick each of their children. Click Done.
  8. Click Create Parent.

Adding your first parent completes a step of the setup guide.

What the parent receives

You don't choose the password. Hi Kiddo generates one and emails it to the parent with their sign-in details: the email invites them to download the Hi Kiddo app and sign in with their email and this password. They can change the password in the app.

After you click Create Parent, a message shows their email and the password, once. Write it down or pass it on yourself if the email doesn't arrive. It isn't shown again.

For what parents can do in the app, see Mobile app for parents.

How to edit a parent

How to edit a parent

  1. Click the parent's name, or the edit icon on their row.
  2. Change their details, language or children. Under Their children, tick new children or untick ones to remove the link.
  3. To set a password yourself, type it in Password. Leave it blank to keep the current one. It needs at least 8 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a number.
  4. Click Update User.

When you change a password, the parent is signed out of the app and receives an email saying their password changed. Children you tick here get the relationship "parent"; you can set Mother, Father and so on from the child's form. See Children.

The right side of the edit page shows their Registered Devices, so you can check whether they have signed in to the app.

How to send a new password

If a parent has lost their password:

  1. Click the key icon (Send a new password) on their row.
  2. Confirm by clicking Send.

A new password is emailed to them. The old one stops working and they are signed out of the app. You don't see the new password. You can send at most 3 per account per hour, and the account must be active.

How to deactivate or delete a parent

  • Deactivate (pause icon): the parent can no longer sign in. They are signed out of the app and stop receiving notifications. Use Activate (play icon) to turn the account back on. Either way you stay on the Parents list.
  • Delete (bin icon): only for an account created by mistake. If the parent already has history, such as messages, Hi Kiddo asks you to deactivate instead.

Good to know

  • Parents don't count against your plan's staff limit.
  • You can also link an existing parent from the child's profile with Select parent to link.... See Children.
  • Each parent account belongs to one center.

Troubleshooting

The parent never got the email. Ask them to check their spam folder and that the email address is right. Then use Send a new password.

"The email has already been taken." Another account already uses this address. Search for it on the Parents and Staff pages.

A parent signs in but sees no child. Open their account and tick their children under Their children, or link them from the child's profile.

The children picker doesn't appear. It only shows once your center has at least one child. Add children first.

Your nursery deserves better than a WhatsApp group.
