Hi Kiddo

Sending a notification

Send a push notification to all the parents or all the teachers of your center in a few clicks.

Where to find it

In the left menu, under Communication, click Send notification.

This page is for directors and the platform administrators. Teachers and parents can't send broadcast notifications.

How to send a notification

  1. Under Send to, choose who receives it:

    • All parents of your center.
    • All teachers of your center.

Each card shows how many people it will reach.

  2. Write a Title (required, up to 100 characters), for example "School Closed Tomorrow".

  3. Write the Message (required, up to 500 characters). A counter under the box shows how many characters you have used.

  4. Check the Preview. It shows your title and message the way they will appear, next to your center's logo (or the Hi Kiddo logo if your center doesn't have one yet).

  5. Click Send Notification and confirm.

A green message then tells you how many people the notification was sent to and how many devices were reached.

How delivery works

  • Everyone in the audience gets the notification in their in-app notification list.
  • A push notification also pops up on each phone where the person is signed in to the Hi Kiddo app with notifications allowed. That is the "devices reached" number: one person can have several devices, and people who never installed the app have none.
  • People whose account has been disabled don't receive the push.
  • The message is sent exactly as you typed it. It is not translated, so write it in the language your families read.
  • A sent notification cannot be edited or recalled.

The side panel

On the right of the page:

  • Audience shows how many parents and teachers your center has, and the total.
  • Recent Broadcasts lists the last ten broadcasts, with their title, the start of the message, when they were sent and to whom.

For platform administrators

Platform administrators see a few more options:

  • Target center: pick one center, or leave it on All Centers to send across the whole platform. When you pick a center, its name, logo and number of users and children appear underneath, and the preview shows that center's logo.
  • Two more audiences: Directors (center directors) and Everyone (parents, teachers and directors).
  • The counts on the audience cards and in the Audience panel are for the whole platform, even when a center is selected.

Good to know

  • For news that concerns one family only, use Messaging instead.
  • Some things notify families automatically, so there's no need to send a broadcast for them: publishing a daily report (Daily reports), creating an incident report (Incidents), creating an event (Calendar events) and adding a closure (Closures).

Troubleshooting

  • "No users found for the selected audience." Your center has no parent or teacher accounts yet. Add them in Parents or Staff.
  • The notification was sent, but 0 devices were reached. None of the recipients is currently signed in to the app with notifications allowed. Ask them to install the app and allow notifications; see Mobile app for parents and Mobile app for teachers. They will still find the message in their notification list.
  • The message says some deliveries failed. This usually means the app was removed from a phone. Hi Kiddo stops sending to that device automatically.

Your nursery deserves better than a WhatsApp group.
